During this time, he worked closely with Dr. John McGlone, the editor-in-chief, to learn the business of book publishing, printing, and marketing and was responsible for sales at trade shows.

Segars' first book, In Search of Confederate Ancestors, originally published by Southern Heritage Press, has now sold over 12,000 copies and continues in print with Pelican Publishing Company of Gretna, Louisiana.

In recent years, Hank's books have been released by LSU Press, Pelican Publishing Company, and Mercer University Press. Hank and his wife, Marie, an elementary school teacher, now live in the small, picturesque town of Madison, located thirty miles south of Athens, Georgia. The couple are active members of Madison Baptist Church and have two married children, Scott (Melissa) and Paige (Tyler).
